We’re All Ready at the Oliver Perry

After a little under a month of training and on-boarding, the 2011-2012 Boston Civic Engagement planned and executed their first full Physical Service Day.  On August 1st, the 6 person BCE team and over 50 volunteers arrived at the Oliver Hazard Perry School to beautify the inside of the school and help the faculty prepare for the upcoming year.  The school is located in South Boston across from the beach with a playground that was recently remodeled but the inside of the school needed some attention from City Year and a group of excited volunteers.

The BCE team led the volunteers in 5 projects that day.  One group repainted the Cafeteria that was in need of some color, while a few other projects painted classrooms that needed fresh coats of paint.  Another project helped to paint the new space for the library and the last project was focused on moving supplies and materials between classrooms.

By the end of the very hot day, the volunteers and Corps Members were exhausted from all the work done but the inside of the school now matched its beautiful surroundings.
