Why Do You Serve?

By Jack Korpob, Comcast Team, serving at the Jeremiah E. Burke High School

As a member of the Recruitment Department’s Ambassador Team or “A-Team” for short, I had the privilege of joining the Open House Crew in planning the very first corps-run Open House for 2011. My role as the Communications point required me to come up with a creative way to send the City Year message to prospective corps members who may fill our boots next year.

We decided to use the founding story of “Everybody Can Be Great,” a quotation by Martin Luther King, Jr. as the theme for the Open House. This was only fitting since our Open House occurred only two nights after MLK Day. In short, the founding story explains that service is an equalizer and that in some form, everybody can serve.

Through City Year Boston, I have met amazing people with a wealth of experiences and leadership come to serve under one common purpose: service to youth through tutoring and mentoring.

Through inspiration from MLK Jr., I decided to make a video that could feature different reasons on why we as a corps serve in City Year Boston and what brought us here.
